ITSP

2-YEAR IT SECURITY PROGRAM

 

 

A 2-year, IT SECURITY PROGRAM (ITSP) can provide students with an entry-level insight into computer operating systems, network security and IT security. Students enrolled in ITSP study the basic principles of computer networking and learn how to protect the information found within network systems. This also provide students with a foundation in criminal justice and digital forensics. 

In general, students can learn about the vulnerabilities of hardware and software systems. Successful completion of a program can prepare students to sit for certification exams, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Network+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); Certified Ethical Hacking (CEH); Certified Hacking Forensics Investigator (CHFI). 

 

Note: Certification exams are optional and may be paid and taken separate from the tuition fee.

 

 

Education Prerequisites

The most common prerequisite for students interested in enrolling in ITSP is a high school diploma. GlobalKnowledge may make exceptions for students who do not have a high school diploma but who do have a working understanding of computer operating systems. The school may require students to take English and Mathematics placement tests (optional; as needed).

Program Coursework

Introductory courses included in ITSP are taught in classroom settings, while more advanced courses are often taught in computer laboratories. A mixture of lecture courses and hands-on, practical courses in ITSP includes:

  • Computer literacy
  • Computer operating systems
  • Introduction to networking
  • Introduction to Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures
  • Principles of criminal justice
  • Secured Computer User
  • Data communications
  • Digital forensics
  • Information security

CLASSROOM Learning Format

Program Length/Total Units Required:

120 units GlobalKnowledge defines an academic year as the time in which a full-time student is expected to complete  of instructional time. Full-time students are expected to complete at least 60 units within the academic year.

Career Outcomes

Common jobs of an ITSP graduate include: computer forensic specialist, information technology specialist, information system security analyst,  network admistrator. Potential workplaces include: corporation, educational institution, government, health care organization, retail organization, small business or software/web development company.
